ONYX Crete RT
High-Performance Rake & Trowel Urethane Cement
Product Description
ONYX Crete RT is a three-component, hybrid polyurethane concrete floor system that is installed using either a Rake (CAM gauge) or Trowel. Its unique formulation makes it ideal for most harsh environmental conditions. It is especially suited to handle high temperatures, sanitary wash down areas, and steam exposure where thermal cycling is present.
ONYX Crete RT has excellent chemical resistance and will withstand constant exposure to all common cleaning and sanitizing products applied at 1/4-inch (6-7 mm).
ONYX Crete RT is USDA accepted for use in federally inspected food facilities.
ONYX Crete RT is formulated from organic, renewable materials, has no VOC, and very low odor.

Packaging
Available in prefilled, single & five-unit kits. Each kit includes A+B+C (34 lb bag), ready to mix. Mix complete units only, do not break down factory packaged units. Do not substitute aggregate filler. Kits do not include silica sand.
Color Selection
ONYX Crete RT is available in 8 standard colors, please refer to ONYX Crete Color Chart. Custom colors available upon request.
Preparation Details
ONYX Crete RT applications should always be terminated into a cut chase or relief in the concrete surface, never terminate flush with surface. For optimal performance in thermal stress applications, cut 1/4-inch chases around trenches, drains and other termination points.
Isolation joints should be cut at doorways of freezers/coolers and other areas where there is a wide variation in surface temperature over a short distance. Contact ONYX Concrete Coatings for complete application details.
Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates should be cured for a minimum of 30 days and have a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 psi. Surfaces must be clean, sound and properly prepared. Suitable preparation methods are recirculating abrasive shot-blasting, scarifications, and/or diamond abrasive grinding. Remove all surface contamination before preparation. All soil, grease, oil or wax, or curing-agents must be removed.
Any preparation method should produce a uniform surface profile of CSP-3 to 5 (ICRI Guide 03732,) or greater.
Do not apply to wet substrates. Test for concrete moisture before application (see Concrete Moisture.) ONYX Crete RT may be applied in certain circumstances to 10 day old (green) and otherwise sound concrete. Concrete substrates less than 28 days old will continue to exhibit normal shrinkage and cause minor cracks to appear in the topping.
Thoroughly vacuum prepared surface to remove all dust prior to application. Protect prepared surface against contamination prior to application of product. Tack off prepared surfaces immediately prior to application to reduce dust contamination in coating.
Concrete Moisture
ONYX Crete RT is resistant to concrete substrate moisture & moisture vapor transmission conditions. Otherwise sound concrete substrates may be coated that exhibit moisture content up to 99% when tested in accordance with ASTM F2170–19 or >4% when tested in accordance with ASTM F2659 when using an impedance type surface meter (Tramex® CME/CMExpert™ on a prepared surface. Excessive moisture conditions in concrete substrates are sometimes related to fundamental concrete defects, alkali silica reaction (ASR) and/or near surface alkali reaction (NSAR) that may preclude the application of any polymer material.
Mixing
ONYX Crete RT mix ratio is 1A : 1B : 1C in factory pre-packaged containers. Do not alter mix ratio. Do not reduce the amount of C aggregate component. Do not thin. Use mixing equipment suitable for a heavy mortar mixture. Heavy duty low-speed drills, helical mixers, or side-scraping bucket mixers are recommended. 5-gallon mix containers will not be adequate to contain entire A+B+C mix, use 6 to 10 gallon mix containers. Premix the Part A resin for 15 seconds until uniform and pigment is completely dispersed. Add Part B Hardener and mix for 30 seconds until fully blended. Slowly, under mixing agitation, add the Part C powder aggregate. Mix for 2 minutes and until all the Part C powder is fully incorporated into the liquids. Mechanically mix only, do not hand mix.
Immediately pour mixed material out on the floor and distribute, 10-12 minutes of working time can generally be expected at 70ºF (21ºC).
Application
Distribute mixed material immediately on the floor. Time mixing to prevent stacking up mixed product. Pour out material in a ribbon. New mixes should be poured into the recently poured product to reduce ridges
.
Distribute product with a CAM gauge rake, trowel, or stainless-steel notched squeegee. Apply at 45 sq ft per kit to achieve 1/4-in thickness. Thickness variation is based upon factors such as condition of concrete (e.g., repair, high/low spots, slope, porosity, etc.), size of broadcasted silica aggregate, selection of application tools, etc.
Smooth material with smoothing tool, trowel, and roll with plastic spike roller to aid in leveling and release entrapped air. Do not overwork material.
Clean Up
ONYX Crete RT uncured, can be cleaned up with water and degreaser, isopropyl alcohol, xylene, or acetone. Cured material is very difficult to remove. On large applications, mixing equipment is typically self-cleaning as long as there is no delay between mixes. Otherwise, it is recommended that mixing equipment be periodically cleaned during extended applications. Always observe safe practices when using flammable solvents.
Storage & Shelf Life
ONYX Crete RT Part A & B, 12 months. Part C (filler powder) 6 months. Store in cool, dry place, out of direct sun, away from heat sources. Storage temperature 45ºF – 85ºF (7.2ºC – 30ºC). Do not allow A component to freeze. Material that has been frozen is unusable and must be disposed of in a responsible manner. Rotate inventory to ensure fresh product.
Limitations
- ONYX Crete RT is not UV color stable and is not recommended for exterior applications or applications where coating is exposed to outside or direct sunlight. Apply a UV resistant topcoat if UV color stability is required.
- ONYX Crete RT part A contains water. Protect from freezing. Frozen material can not be recovered or used. Dispose of frozen material in a responsible manner.
- ONYX Crete colors do not match epoxy or polyaspartic colors. Color may vary. Block material lot numbers for best color uniformity.
- Prior to application, measure and confirm the ambient temperature and humidity conditions of air and substrate.
- Measure and confirm temperature of material. Precondition material for 24 hours prior to mixing.
- Minimum/Maximum substrate temperature at application: 50F (15.5ºC) / 90ºF (32ºC).
- Substrate must be 5ºF (3ºC) above dew point. Ensure conditions will not change during application and curing.
- Protect from moisture and condensation for 24 hours after application.
- Protect from uncured cementitious materials, i.e. plaster, mortar, and drywall mud. Permanent staining will result.
- Contact ONYX for cleaning & maintenance instructions.
- Do not apply to substrates exhibiting or tested positive for contaminates such as sulfite. Alkali silica reaction (ASR) or have shown indications of near surface alkali reaction (NSAR).
- For professional use only by experienced personnel.
